Merger!  Larchmere Holiday Stroll & Shaker Square Holiday Lighting Ceremony

Friday, November 28, 10am-8pm

Saturday, November 29, 10am-9pm
Sunday, November 30, 1-5pm

The Larchmere Holiday Stroll and The Shaker Square Tree Lighting will partner for the first time ever this Thanksgiving weekend.  Both events are in their third decade and have local followings for their quirky shopping pleasures, fine dining, tradition, walkability, and grandeur of illumination.

The Shaker Square Lighting Ceremony is known for its theatrical presentation and climatic arrival of Santa from an mystery direction and mode of transportation.  This year the ceremony will be on Saturday, November 29 at 7pm.   Santa will make a grand entrance, and at his magic command, he will illuminate the entire 1929 Georgian historic landmark.  Make sure you’re at Shaker Square to join Wayne Dawson and Stefanie Schaefer of Fox 8 for the official Tree Lighting!  Santa arrives at 7:00 pm, and he will hear all of your Holiday wishes at CVS after he lights the Square. Thanks to CVS, each child will receive a free portrait with Santa.

The 11 restaurants of the Square will of course be open and offering traditional and international holiday favorites, including Sarava, fire, Balaton, Yours Truly, and the soon-to-be open Darna and Grotto Wine Bar & Restaurant.

Catch Lolly the Trolly from Larchmere to Shaker Square and back! Shop, dine, or catch a movie. Rides will run from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Saturday, November 29.  Lolly the Trolley will connect the dots from Shaker Square to Larchmere Boulevard one block to the north, as well as to parking locations.

The Larchmere shopping extravaganza takes place for three full days following Thanksgiving.  Three dozen locally-owned businesses on Larchmere Boulevard will welcome the holiday season with good cheer and nostalgic fanfare.  Larchmere is known for its arts and antiques, but it is also home to some of the city's best restaurants, services, bookstores and boutiques, all independently owned and operated.  Come browse the boulevard and discover old-world shopping in your hometown neighborhood.

The esoteric, unique and great deals abound, from the crafts at Dancing Sheep to the Asian antiquities at John Young's.   Enjoy classic good food at the 69-year-old Academy Tavern or the brand-new Felice Urban Cafe.  The exquisitely wrapped packages at Elegant Extras are always a treat in and of themselves, and fine yarns at Fine Points are a craft lover's dream.  Even the services on Larchmere offer special gift baskets like natural hair care products at Argentina's and doggie treats and grooming coupons at Groovy Grooming.  Come discover these wonderful stores, and more, during the Larchmere Holiday Stroll.

"This is a monumental display of collaboration between the Larchmere Merchants Association and the Coral Company," says Harriett Logan, secretary of LMA.  "It's really a no-brainer, but nevertheless a perfect and symbiotic melding of holiday fanfare."  Kristin Esser of the Coral Company agrees, and the pair are working on first-ever joint posters and flyers to publicize the merged event.

Mark your calendars now.  The biggest shopping weekend of the year doesn't have to be bland and big-box:  the historic districts of Shaker Square and Larchmere will give you the surprise and esoterica you seek.  A meld between traditional and funky, distinctive and rousing, the weekend will become alive with holiday cheer.  Join us.  Memories await you.
