The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.  This prestigious award has spawned a collectors circle, with the most prized collectible being the first edition of a Caldecott Award winner prior to the application of the gold-foiled Caldecott sticker.  Some of the books are outrageously scarce, and in hot demand.  Listen to the tale of one collector, and the tales most sought-after.

Larchmere Flea Market and Festival

Returning after its first and phenomenal year, the Larchmere Flea Market and Festival is more than a day of bargains and goodies, but of neighbors, festivities, workshops and camaraderie.  Tucked into corners and lots up and down the boulevard are dealers of vintage goods, antiques, art, and collectibles, with an additional community garage sale lot for the bargain hunters.  Music, the Euclid Beach Rocket Car, and food enliven the festival flair.  Workshops abound, featuring knitting, paper marbling, health seminars, green home improvements, and a local author book fair.  More info to follow closer to date, or call 216-795-9800.
