Clara Reece Day, Breaking the Diamond Ceiling
a booksigning and talk

Clara Reece Day is a pioneering woman executive who negotiated trade contracts and joint ventures with the Soviet Bloc and China during the Cold War.  Her story begins in Rumania, heads to London, and then to Cleveland, Ohio for decades of travel.  She met Cyrus Eaton, Jr. on an airplane and was hired to work for his Tower International, negotiating billion-dollar deals and unprecedented international collaborations.

She worked for Hollywood, too, negotiating locations for films such as "The Fixer" (MGM, filmed in Hungary, 1968) and "The Bluebird" (Twentieth Century Fox, filmed in the U.S.S.R., 1975).

Come hear her anecdotes of the people she met including Nikita Krushchev, John Frankenheimer, George Cukor, Elizabeth Taylor, Jane Fonda, Chinese VP Gu Mu, Armand Hammer, and Buckminster Fuller.

Fluent in eight languages, Reece considers herself an internationalist.  Listen to the lessons she's learned, and why trade is beneficial and necessary for world peace.  “Now in the 21st century,” says Day, “perhaps it is a good time for the new generation to compare—through a small glimpse—what happened in my life in the ‘bad times’ and to what extent the ‘new order’ in the world is better or how it could be improved.  The new generation has every chance to speak up and create a better world.”

Clara Reece was a long-time Shaker Heights resident, living near Shaker Square.  Recently married to Thomas D. Day, the couple has just  moved to Oberlin.  Clara Reece Day will give a short presentation, followed by Q&A and a book signing, at Loganberry Books on September 16th.

Breaking the Diamond Ceiling was self-published and privately printed in 1999.  Due to popular demand and the current political climate, Reece Day has printed a fifth edition.  Spiral bound, 112 pages with photographs, $15
