N.O.B.S. Cleveland Antiquarian Book and Paper Show

Sunday, September 25, 2016, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The sixth annual Cleveland Antiquarian Book  & Paper Show will offer something for everyone: old, rare, and collectible books plus maps, prints and all kinds of paper ephemera.  The new location at the Shaker Heights Country Club (3300 Courtland Blvd., Shaker Heights, OH  44122) on Sunday, September 25 from 10am to 5pm, features a beautiful open exhibit room, great lighting, and free parking.  Book dealers from several states will offer for sale delights for book-lovers, scholars, collectors, and browsers in most every field imaginable.

Longtime book enthusiast Judy Eskin of Pepper Pike says “the event is large yet intimate.  You run into friends and wonderful items that you somehow never notice when you visit the bookstores!”  In addition, customers can look forward to the return of the ever-popular Roadshow-style free book evaluations.  Each guest may bring up to 3 books for a professional, informal evaluation during the Fair.

In anticipation of the Book and Paper Show, NOBS offers an educational seminar called Book Collecting 101.  This is part of the monthly NOBS Forums held at Loganberry Books (13015 Larchmere Blvd., Shaker Heights, OH 44120) on every third Wednesday of the month at 7:00PM.  This session will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, 7:00PM, and will be led by Larry Rakow.  After having served as a high school and middle school librarian and a library administrator for the Cuyahoga County Library, Larry Rakow started two reading-related companies (Kidstamps and Wonder-Shirts) before retiring full-time into the amazing world of old and rare children’s books (Wonderland Books). As the Vice President of NOBS, he has presented Book Collecting 101 numerous times and recommends it for anyone who loves antiquarian, vintage, or new books and wants to learn or brush up on the ways to determine the best new books to purchase or old books to keep.  Session is free and open to the public.

The Northern Ohio Bibliophilic Society (N.O.B.S.) NOBS is devoted to the recognition, dissemination, and preservation of fine and antiquarian books. The organization holds two annual antiquarian book fairs, meets for monthly NOBS Forums (presentations on various book and book-collecting topics), and publishes a quarterly newsletter with articles of interest to members.  Its members hope to broaden public awareness of book collecting and book arts, to stimulate the book trade, and to encourage the scholarly appreciation of publishing history.

The Shaker Heights Country Club is located at 3300 Courtland Boulevard, Shaker Heights, just south of South Woodland Boulevard, and west of Warrensville Center Road.  Admission to the Fair is $6 at the door, with ample free parking.
