Salutations!

Larchmere Festival

Saturday, July 2, 10am-5pm

Celebrate your independent spirit with us on Independence weekend.  Perhaps you have out-of-town guests visiting?  Come explore Larchmere, where you’ll find the real deal.  This area isn’t constructed to look like an old neighborhood, it is an old neighborhood.  Not a single chain store or big box retailer can be found on Larchmere.  Revel in a homegrown community, a grassroots festival, and a street full of indie spirit and local merchants and artists.  We’ll have antiques dealers, local artists, Bazaar Bizarre, a Chess Exhibition, a community Flea Market, Author Alley, music, dance and crafts for kids, gardening seminars, festival food, car washes and free bicycle parking.  Did you see the nice Plain Dealer article about the Shaker Square neighborhood?  Need more Festival info?  Visit the Larchmere.com website or download our program, with maps.

Camps in woods- gets provisions by putting a bump in highway, supplies fall off trucks. In the end, family not dead.

Annex Gallery
Jon Abrahamson & friends
Opening Recpeption: Thursday, July 7, 6-8pm
~first Thursdays ~
Over their 25 year friendship Amonte and Jon have bounced many ideas and images off one another.  Although their artistic paths are quite distinct both have developed a deep appreciation for our fair city and its people.  There is a beauty in the buildings who are past their prime and now sit like dinosaurs in our midst (wabi sabi).  We enjoy sharing these captured moments with our friends.  Show continues through August 1.

Gene's Jazz Hot

Gene's Jazz Hot
Thursday, July 14, 7-9pm

~ second Thursdays ~

Gene’s Jazz Hot plays their monthly gig with its regular stalwart trio and a roster of excellent toe-tapping tunes. Perhaps Otis will join us for some crooners, too.  Come join us for the jazz cabaret.  Donations for the band appreciated.

Show and Tell
Thursday, July 21, 7pm
~ third Thursdays ~
What’s on your summer reading list? Now’s the time to share your interesting, unusual, and otherwise noteworthy reads with other bibliophiles at our semi-annual Show and Tell session.  Anything goes: you can bring treasured tomes and tell us about them, or you can bring odd curiosities you know nothing about and let group members tell you what they think.  Either way, there’s always something to learn and some great books to discuss.  Bring a book and join us!

Classics Club
Willa Cather: My Antonia
Thursday, July 28, 7pm

~ fourth Thursdays ~

First published in 1918, and set in Nebraska in the late 19th century, this tale of the spirited daughter of a Bohemian immigrant family planning to farm on the untamed land ("not a country at all but the material out of which countries are made") comes to us through the romantic eyes of Jim Burden. He is, at the time of their meeting, newly orphaned and arriving at his grandparents' neighboring farm on the same night her family strikes out to make good in their new country. Jim chooses the opening words of his recollections deliberately: "I first heard of Ántonia on what seemed to be an interminable journey across the great midland plain of North America," and it seems almost certain that readers of Cather's masterpiece will just as easily pinpoint the first time they heard of Ántonia and her world. --Goodreads.com

Hope to see you soon!
