Salutations
and
Happy New Year!
It was a good holiday season here, and we thank our loyal patrons for
remembering to shop local during the busiest retail season of the
year. Christmas cards and calendars are now 20% off, and we
have lots
of great choices left. We gear up for 2008 with our usual Thursday
evening activities -- Annex Gallery artist receptions, Gene's Jazz Hot,
NOBS Forums, and book club. Read on for details.

Janeen
Hobby -- Voyages
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 3, 6-8pm
~ first Thursdays ~
Local photographer Janeen Hobby has traveled to Europe, Southeast Asia
and Yemen to being us views of people and places we might not know
firsthand. Her eye is exacting and engaging, and she's bringing in a
whopping 45 framed photographs for one of largest single-artist Annex
Gallery shows yet. Come meet the artist and drink a toast to the new
year. Show
runs January 3-February 4.
In Concert
Gene's
Jazz
Hot
Thursday, January 10, 6:30pm-9:00pm
~ second Thursdays ~
Nothing beats a good band in a cozy book-lined room. If you want food
to go along with that, I highly recommend the Flying Cranes Cafe across
the street which is indeed open now, and featuring the best miso soup
this side of Japan (according to some patrons). We'll have self-serve
hot tea and other light snacks, but feel free to bring your take-out
dinner, or your own bottle of wine. Donations
for the band
gladly accepted.

Show and Tell
Thursday, January 17, 7pm
~ third Thursdays ~
The book talks sponsored by the Northern Ohio Bibliophilic
Society has a full year planned for 2008, and we'll
begin with a Show and Tell on January 17th. Come brag about
your Christmas presents or show off family heirlooms or recent garage
sale
finds. It's a good social time, as well as educational, as there
are always some real gems to marvel over. Please join us. $3
suggested donation.
Stump
the Bookseller Selection of the month
I sent out over 50 stumper magician holiday gifties
(books, of course) to those who routinely help solve the book
stumpers! Thanks so much for your dedication and expertise!
G443: girl stops burglers in department store
An English book from the 40's or 50's where a little girl stops
burglers in a department store by pushing the escalator button. Her
family gets a new washing up machine as a reward.
Bloomsday Club
Thursday, January 24, 7pm
~ fourth Thursdays ~
Yup, we journey on with Stephen Bloom and the
gang.... We've had a holiday hiatus, so it's a good time for newcomers
to join the group and venture forth with what many claim the best piece
of literature in English of the twentieth century. Also go see
Bloomsday Club member Barbara Becker's new play Ictus at CPT's
Big Box series February 22-24.
Each of these events has a poster if
you want a reminder, or a flyer to post on your favorite bulletin board
(just click on the image). And don't forget our amusing and sometimes
informative
blog....
peace,
