Loganberry News November 2019

Falling back and looking forward

As we tumble forward in our busy schedules and look ahead in this monthly announcement, we also honor the past. Our 2019 Haunted Bookshop (tomorrow!) is full of commemoratives, including the Wicked Witch of the West (80th anniversary of the film), the Booker-Prize winner Margaret Atwood (returning to Gilead after 34 years), Walt Whitman (200th birthday), Woodstock (50th anniversary), and even Hermione’s time-turner (20 years). We’ll need that time-turner to catch up with our November selves, as time has a way of escaping with so many events leading up to the official start of the holidays here on Larchmere with the Holiday Stroll Thanksgiving weekend. Otis is already hard at work assembling this year’s Old Curiosity Shop (Dickens’ work celebrates 179 years this year! what will we do for the 180th next year?). Oh wait, we have our own anniversary too — our 25th — and pens, stickers, and the best book totes have already arrived. Official celebration will be December 4th.

PS: Starting this month, you can click on (almost) any title mentioned in the newsletter and link straight to our online store to purchase the book from (and show your love for) Loganberry. You can arrange to have it put on hold here in the store or shipped to you anywhere in country!

William S. Burroughs: Naked Lunch
Wednesday, November 13, 2019, 7pm
~bimonthly~
At this bookclub led by local writer and playwright, Eric Coble, we explore the revolutionary mid-20th century shift in American fiction toward the disjointed, surreal, and downright dystopic.

This month we'll be reading Naked Lunch, William S. Burroughs' disorienting and heartbreakingly timely narrative of a descent into heroin addition. We hope you'll join us for this discussion and and proceed through other ground-breaking fiction bi-monthly for a year.
