The start of the summer season always = surprises me. Where did all that green come from? Three big-time book sig= nings we've been working on are suddenly around the corner, and even more= momentous than planned, with PEN/Faulkner nominations, US House of Repre= sentatives special guests, and front page raves in the New York Times Boo= k Review! (wow)

And then there ar= e the Festivals: PorchFest, Rock the Blocks, Larchmere Festival and Autho= r Alley. Throw in a Walt Whitman Read-a-thon for good measure, and Clevel= and Summers really are the best.

Rachel Louise Snyder and Martina Latessa: No Visible Bruises: What We Don=E2=80=99t Know= About Domestic Violence Can Kill Us
Thursday, June 6,= 2019, 7pm
Domestic violence happens every week in Cleveland =E2=80=93= a wife murdered in the driveway, an arsonist torching the home of a slee= ping mother and her children. Through the stories of victims, perpetrator= s, law enforcement, and reform movements from across the country, author = Rachel Louise Snyder explores the real roots of domestic violence, its fa= r-reaching consequences for society, and what it will take to truly addre= ss it. In her book, Snyder follows a Cleveland domestic violence detectiv= e dedicated to high risk cases--one of the only police officers of her ki= nd in the country--Martina Latessa, = who will be joining Rachel here at Loganberry Books.

Introducing the e= vent will be Ohio= House Representative Janine Boyd who wrote and sponsored Aisha=E2=80=99s Law. The bill is named for Aisha Frase= r, a former Shaker Heights sixth-grade teacher who was stabbed to death b= y her ex-husband, former Cuyahoga County judge Lance Mason, in November 2= 018 following years of domestic abuse. Aisha=E2=80=99s law would require = law enforcement officers responding to domestic violence complaints to ut= ilize the Lethality Assessment Program, a strategy to identify high-risk = situations that pose a threat of further violence.
