Cleveland's Most Literary Month of the Year

July is shaping up to= be an all-star month for Cleveland readers and writers--and our own Author Alley this= Saturday is just the beginning. Every weekend this month, Logan= berry is taking part in large multi-author events. Some, including the in= augural Cle Reads Teen Book Festival and the Lit Cleveland Inkubator, bring bestselling authors from= across the country to connect with Cleveland book-lovers.

Connecting authors and readers can be life-changing for b= oth, as Elizabeth Acevedo, author of Poet X, related in her keynote at the = ABA Children's Institute, the national conference = focused on children's books that I and Bookseller Leigh attended last wee= k. Acevedo's own life was changed when she read Heaven by Angela Johnson in middle s= chool, but it was Acevedo's own letters to the author that shaped the way= Angela Johnson wrote its companion book, The First Part Last, a book she dedicated to Elizabeth Acevedo, w= ho is now a National Book Award and Carnegie Medal winning author in her = own right. We hope you'll come out to meet an author (or 50!) at one of o= ur many upcoming events and make this July your best yet.

Wednesday, July 17, 2019, 7pm
Lean Out is not simply a retort to Sheryl S= andberg=E2=80=99s Lean In premise,= which Marissa believes is based on a masculine worldview. Nan and Jinny St George have both weal= th and beauty in generous supply. In the New York society of the 1870s, h= owever, only those with old money can achieve the status of the elite, an= d it is here that the sisters seem doomed to failure.
