Coloring Book Party
Wednesday, March 30, 2016, 7:00PM
~ potential new event ~
Coloring Books are all the rage, and rightfully so, as they offer a therapeutic, meditative element to our busy world. But sometimes it's nice to be social, too, so join us for a group coloring event. You can bring your own coloring books, or use pages from ours (we sell some pretty cool ones, too). Special this round: coloring pages that are designed to be cards, with hand-colored envelopes. All ages welcomed. If this is popular, we might make a monthly event of it.

Lynne Brookdale: The Cubicle Chronicles

Sunday, April 17, 2016, 1:00PM

~ Sunday Signings ~

Join us for a signing of The Cubicle Chronicles, a hilarious workplace satire about a millennial finding her way through the corporate world. Bethany Bowers is like most recent college grads: idealistic, underemployed, and broke. After leaving her dead-end telemarketing job, Bethany happily accepts a position at a prestigious Pittsburgh recruiting firm. She soon discovers, however, that it’s a corporate world and she’s just living in it. There’s her obnoxious, self-absorbed boss, his scantily-clad “executive assistant,” and a host of other co-workers who give the expression “the inmates are running the asylum” a whole new meaning. After realizing that life in a cubicle farm isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, Bethany begins to wonder what else the world holds in store for her. With the help of Heidi, her friend and only normal co-worker, Bethany goes on a hilarious and introspective journey of self-discovery.

Old Time Radio Night
Thursday, April 21, 2016, 7:00PM
~ third Thursdays ~
Join us every 3rd Thursday at 7 p.m. for Old Time Radio Night at Loganberry Books, where we'll celebrate the charm and nostalgia of old-time radio programsEpisode 1: Bergen and McCarthey was a surprise hit when it introduced the spirited and iconic ventriloquist dummy Charlie McCarthey. This 1952 episode guest starred Marilyn Monroe.  Episode 2: From Here to Eternity was a private eye show meant to revitalize Frank Sinatra’s career. He played “footloose and fancy-free” Rocky Fortune, and his charm and tongue-in-cheek wit saved an otherwise “B-grade” series.  Episode 3: We finish up the series with the 7th anniversary episode of the Jack Benny Show from 1939.

Betty Friedan: The Feminine Mystique

Landmark, groundbreaking, classic¯these adjectives barely do justice to the pioneering vision and lasting impact of The Feminine Mystique. Published in 1963, it gave a pitch-perfect description of “the problem that has no name”: the insidious beliefs and institutions that undermined women’s confidence in their intellectual capabilities and kept them in the home. Writing in a time when the average woman first married in her teens and 60 percent of women students dropped out of college to marry, Betty Friedan captured the frustrations and thwarted ambitions of a generation and showed women how they could reclaim their lives. Part social chronicle, part manifesto, The Feminine Mystique is filled with fascinating anecdotes and interviews as well as insights that continue to inspire.

National Celebration

Independent Bookstore Day
Saturday, April 30, 2016, 10:00AM
~ annual event ~
Independent bookstores are not just stores, they’re community centers and local anchors run by passionate readers. They are entire universes of ideas that contain the possibility of real serendipity. They are lively performance spaces and quiet places where aimless perusal is a day well spent.  Indie bookstores, whether dusty and labyrinthine or clean and well-lighted, are not just stores, they are solutions. They hold the key to your love life, your career, and your passions. Walking the aisles of a good bookstore means stumbling upon a novel from India that expands your heart. It’s encountering an art book that changes the direction of your life. It’s the joy of having a perfect stranger steer you toward the perfect book.  In a world of tweets and algorithms and pageless digital downloads, bookstores are not a dying anachronism. They are living, breathing organisms that continue to grow and expand. In fact, there are more of them this year than there were last year. And they are at your service.

Join us at Loganberry Books as we celebrate Independent Bookstore Day, along with about 400 other indie bookstore across the country, and 9 participating bookstores in the NE Ohio area. We'll have books, gifts, tchotchkes developed exclusively for this events, as well as freebies and hospitalities to say thank you for shopping indie.  We also helped develop a Passport so you can visit all the local indies and learn more about them.

Thanks for reading,

Harriett
