Salutations!

Our Friday Night music series continues, with our favorite guitarist Brian Henke playing on the First Friday in July.  The following day is our big annual Larchmere Festival, with vendors galore, and authors aplenty.  Speaking of authors, don’t miss Mary Doria Russell joining our Classics Club for a discussion of The Sparrow, or the Story Slams and Open Mics coming up.  Summer is blooming!

Shoeless JoeW.P. Kinsella: Shoeless Joe
Thursday, June 27, 2013, 7pm

“If you build it, he will come.”
These mysterious words inspire Ray Kinsella to create a cornfield baseball diamond in honor of his hero, Shoeless Joe Jackson. What follows is a rich, nostalgic look at one of our most cherished national pastimes and a remarkable story about fathers and sons, love and family, and the inimitable joy of finding your way home.

First Fridays
Brian Henke
Friday, July 5, 7:00-8:30pm

~ Friday music series ~
Join the businesses of Larchmere as they celebrate the First Friday of the month by staying open late.  At Loganberry, we’ll host our favorite guitarist, Brian Henke.  Brian composes and performs his music like a painter putting images on canvas, a kind of sonic shaman, drawing his inspiration from the natural world around him.  His unique guitar style has been called everything from Folk to New Age to Neoclassical to Pastoral or, as Brian like to call it, "a big stewpot of everything stirred up, simmered, and served to taste."  His music appeals to everyone who likes their music lyrical, thought provoking and performed with virtuosity.  Through it all is an undercurrent of spirituality and mysticism that Brian says is very much a part of the creative process. Check out a sample.
Donations for the band gratefully accepted.

The SparrowMary Doria Russell: The Sparrow
Thursday, July 25, 7-8:30pm

~ fourth Thursdays ~
In 2019, humanity finally finds proof of extraterrestrial life when a listening post in Puerto Rico picks up exquisite singing from a planet which will come to be known as Rakhat. While United Nations diplomats endlessly debate a possible first contact mission, the Society of Jesus quietly organizes an eight-person scientific expedition of its own. What the Jesuits find is a world so beyond comprehension that it will lead them to question the meaning of being "human." When the lone survivor of the expedition, Emilio Sandoz, returns to Earth in 2059, he will try to explain what went wrong.  Mary Doria Russell will join the discussion.
