Title: Duchamp's Nude Descending a StaircaseSalutations!

It’s the Centennial of the Armory Show, the modern art show that shocked America.  Can you imagine the hostile outrage of art lovers when confronted with abstraction, Futurism, and Cubism?  The art world has never been the same.  In honor of this momentous anniversary, we’re celebrating with 20% off all art books now until Saturday, March 16th.  Shocking, indeed.

FinneganKelli Finnegan and Rachel Shelton: Decline

Thursday, March 7, 6--8 pm

~ first Thursdays ~

Decline is a collection of Kelli Finnegan and Rachel Shelton's work. Both are Cleveland based artists who explore the decay and rebirth within the forgotten buildings in their urban environment. Kelli focuses on interiors, using photography to expose scenes that speak to buildings' histories and the resulting environmental reactions. Rachel uses photography and printmaking to produce imagery of exteriors, looking at the abandonment as a whole and how it relates to human culture. Together, their imagery covers the buildings' industrial past and their current usage, hoping for others to see a future in them.

Charlotte Brontė: Villette
Thursday, March 28, 7 pm

~ fourth Thursdays ~
Arguably Brontė's most refined and deeply felt work, Villette draws on her profound loneliness following the deaths of her three siblings. Lucy Snowe, the narrator of Villette, flees from an unhappy past in England to begin a new life as a teacher at a French boarding school in the great cosmopolitan capital of Villette. Soon Lucy's struggle for independence is overshadowed by both her friendship with a worldly English doctor and her feelings for an autocratic schoolmaster. Brontė's strikingly modern heroine must decide if there is any man in her society with whom she can live and still be free.
