Salutations friends!

Loganberry Books is pleased to introduce Otis’ Old Curiosity Shop, a holiday bazaar.  Named after our feline friend (and a famous book by Charles Dickens), Otis’ Old Curiosity Shop is a temporary show in the Loganberry Books Annex Gallery, featuring an almost equal mix of new toys & games, holiday cards & calendars, local artists and fair trade crafts, and vintage collectibles & curios.

We have over 2 dozen local artists represented in Otis' Old Curiosity Shop this year, with work ranging from wooden pens to Chinese watercolor, crochet scarves to fused glass.  “This is such an eclectic collection of artists, offering a broad spectrum of styles and mediums, that somehow come together and complement each other perfectly,” says Carla Fontecchio, the Annex Gallery Manager.  On Thursday, December 1st, we'll host a reception to meet the artists, 6-8pm.  Join us for a toast!

In addition to the local artist and fair trade pieces, there is a plethora of toys and games for all ages.  Traditional wooden toys like yo-yos and jump ropes make excellent stocking stuffers, while jigsaw puzzles and Kikkerman wind-up toys can entertain people of all ages.  Children’s toys range from the whimsical Terrible Two Shoes to the educational Tell Me a Story game.  Gifties for adults range from gorgeous felt tote bags to BuckyBalls.  Vintage offerings include a framed portfolio of Norman Rockwell’s Four Freedoms and funky old Ronson lighters.  And of course there are books.  Really, there’s too much to list, you’ll have to come and explore for yourself.

Personalized Shopping Sessions

Modeled after the former Twigbee Shop at Higbee’s, Otis will offer personalized shopping sessions to help you find that perfect gift for everyone, from new baby Kayla to Great Uncle Fred.  Like the Twigbee Shop, we will cater sessions for children with a gift-giving goal.  A short interview will help determine the style and taste for both gift-giver and recipient, because we want the gift to be perfect.  A minimum $10 budget is required for each person on the gift list, and reservations are required (although purchase is not).  We will offer custom shopping sessions for adults as well, with gift-giving advice for all ages and interest levels.  We even have vintage elves from the old Halle’s Department Store in our windows to help evoke that old Cleveland holiday tradition.  Call 216.795.9800 for an appointment with one of our excellent staff members.

Larchmere Holiday Stroll

This Thanksgiving weekend kicks off our annual holiday celebration with the Larchmere Stroll.  Brian Henke will entertain with his virtuoso guitar on Friday and Saturday, November 26 & 27, 12-2pm.  We’ll have hot mulled cider and cookies, as usual, and some extra gifties for customers.  Bazaar Bizarre will be right across the street, and all the Larchmere merchants will do their bit to celebrate the official start of the Holiday season.  This weekend also kicks off our extra holiday hours, which  include Thursday and Friday evenings until 8pm and Sundays 12-4pm.

In December, in addition to the Artists Reception mentioned above, Gene’s Jazz Hot will keep the toes tapping during their usual second-Thursday gig, December 8, 7-9pm.
